| A few photographs of the prototype HST power cars.
I have a photograph of the train running on 29 July 1977, but it is not filed where it is supposed to be !!! If I find it, I will upload it. 41001 was introduced in June 1972, renumbered in May 1974 to 43000 and after withdrawal in November 1976 entered departmental use with the number ADB975912. It was withdrawn from depatmental use in the spring of 1982 (reports of which month vary !). It is currently under the custodianship of the NRM 41002 was introduced in August 1972, renumbered in May 1974 to 43001 and after withdrawal in November 1976 entered departmental use with the number ADB975913. Several sources report that it was withdrawn from depatmental use in 1988, but it did not look like it was going anywhere again when I saw it at Derby Works in 1982 !. It was scrapped at Booth's in Dec 1990. Several of the the prototype HST coaches are still in public use. These were numbered 41001 , 41002, 42000, 42001 and 42002. These were converted to Trailer Firsts 41170, 41174, 41172, 41171 and 41173 in 1982. Several have since been altered to "trailer standard" and renumbered again. Coaches 40000 (10000) and 41000 (11000) have been converted and currently run in the NMT with the numbers 975984 and 975814 respectively. |
